Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, presented at Huawei Connect 2024 in Paris, highlights impactful projects such as biodiversity monitoring, STEM education, and digital inclusion. Partnering with global organizations, Huawei supports Europe’s digital and green transformation.
At the Huawei Connect 2024 event in Paris, Huawei and its key partners showcased how the TECH4ALL initiative is advancing Europe’s digital and green transformation.
On the first day of the conference, the TECH4ALL forum introduced several ongoing and newly launched TECH4ALL projects, highlighting their value in promoting sustainability, benefiting humanity, and protecting the planet.
Technology and Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
Zhou Jun, President of Huawei ICT Marketing, remarked at the TECH4ALL forum:
“We believe technology and collaboration are crucial for achieving green and digital transformation and building an inclusive and sustainable digital world. Guided by this vision, we launched the TECH4ALL initiative in 2019, and its scale and impact continue to grow.”
Tech4Nature: A Global Partnership for Conservation
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) presented the Tech4Nature global partnership, launched with Huawei in 2020. This initiative leverages technological innovation to enhance nature conservation efforts. Aligning with Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative and IUCN’s Green List vision, Tech4Nature has supported 11 flagship projects across eight countries, delivering customized solutions to address conservation challenges.
James Hardcastle, IUCN’s Head of Protected Areas, emphasized:
“Tech4Nature is a global partnership between IUCN, representing nature conservation, and Huawei, representing technology. Our collaboration is vital, as solving the climate and biodiversity crises requires the power of technology. Tech4Nature is dedicated to harnessing innovation to tackle these challenges.”
The second phase of Tech4Nature launched in 2024, with new projects planned in five countries, including a biodiversity monitoring and protection project in Spain’s Sierra Nevada, initiated last week.
PROBOTEK: Innovating Forest Fire Prevention
Greek startup PROBOTEK introduced a forest fire prevention and response system developed under the TECH4ALL initiative. Supported by the Greek government, PROBOTEK collaborated with the University of Athens and Huawei to create this solution. In October 2024, the second phase of the pilot was announced on Skiathos Island.
The system integrates sensors, 5G networks, AI, and drones to respond within the critical “golden 15 minutes” of detecting a fire. It provides evacuation routes to residents and plans paths for fire trucks and ambulances, minimizing potential damage.
Advancing STEM Education with UNESCO
In education, UNESCO and Huawei TECH4ALL have launched initiatives such as Open School, Campus UNESCO, and STEM education projects. At the forum, UNESCO highlighted its strategy to promote equitable and quality education worldwide, focusing on revitalizing STEM education in Europe to prepare the next generation with essential skills.
Magdalena Landry, Director of UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, stated:
“UNESCO’s STEM strategy aims to build a robust ecosystem that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. The strategy involves increasing youth participation, enhancing teacher capacity, and promoting gender equality and inclusivity.”
Promoting Digital Inclusion in France
TECH4ALL partners Close the Gap and Konexio introduced the DigiTruck project in France, which provides digital skills training for priority groups, including older adults and unemployed youth. To date, the program has reached over 6,300 people across 31 cities. At the Huawei Europe Night on October 13, both organizations were awarded for their contributions to digital inclusion and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
A Broader Vision for Inclusive and Sustainable Development
Under the TECH4ALL initiative, Huawei collaborates with governments, NGOs, intergovernmental organizations, telecom operators, environmental groups, universities, and tech companies. Recognizing the pivotal role of technology in fostering inclusion and sustainability, Huawei aims to expand such partnerships across Europe in the future.
